Transformations in Biotechnology: Major Trends that Are Changing Life Sciences

  • How will our annual physical and doctor’s office visit change in the future?

  • What is the importance to us of research in gene editing, stem cells and tissue culture?

  • Why are some of our best friends germs, such as gut bacteria?

  • How is drug discovery and drug development changing our therapies of the future?

Thomas Forest Farb-Horch, Co-Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer at Thrive Bioscience, Inc. will discuss major trends in biotechnology, such as those above.  His lecture will draw on his extensive experience as the founder of 10 technology and life sciences companies in areas ranging from software development tools, artificial intelligence, medical devices and cancer diagnostics to genomics, pharmaceuticals and information technology. He has raised over $150 million dollars in venture capital and over $400 million in public equity for his companies.

His current company, Thrive Bioscience, is developing previously unavailable instruments to automate cell culture, stem cell culture and tissue culture to meet the needs of cell-based research, drug discovery, drug development & regenerative medicine.  Thrive has raised $12 million in venture capital and its first customers and collaborators include the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard and the Harvard Stem Cell Institute. Founded in 2014, the company has offices and laboratories in Wakefield and Beverly and is part of the North Shore InnoVentures startup incubator.
