“SPRINKLES” Decoded: Film Screening and Discussion

August 12 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us at Cinema Salem for special screening of the award-winning short film “SPRINKLES” and a post-screening conversation with film director and co-founder of Artist’s Web Productions, Andrew Korzenik.

“SPRINKLES” Decoded is an educational experience that explores the intersection of alternative media, conspiracy theories and the rise of extremist violence. The program begins with a screening of the award winning short film “SPRINKLES”: a suspenseful reimagining of a real life event set in a donut shop. Postscreening, Korzenik will lead an interactive, apolitical conversation about the film, the real life forces that inspired it, and how engaged citizens can push back against extremism.

This politically neutral look at media will focus on the broader ecosystem of news, specifically the difference between journalism and opinion-based content. While alternative media is not inherently harmful, it can become problematic if it spreads unchecked or misleading information.

25-minute short film followed by a 60-minute conversation

Andrew Korzenik is a filmmaker and writer based in Chicago, Illinois. After a childhood spent in New England, Andrew moved to Chicago where he was introduced to documentary theater and, more broadly, the idea that storytelling could spark real world conversation. After graduating from Ithaca College’s BFA Acting Program and studying at Second City Hollywood’s Improv Conservatory, Andrew pivoted from performance to directing. His directorial credits include award winning shorts like Knock Knock, “SPRINKLES,” and Mister Abracadabra. His latest film, Passed Over, will be released soon through the SMC Film program and he is currently in pre-production on the short form documentary nagasakistpaul. His production company, Artist’s Web Productions, is currently working to independently fund and produce a feature film adaptation of SPRINKLES. When not working on or watching movies, Andrew enjoys spending time with his wife Sky and his dog Tippi.
