This workshop introduces writers to the fundamentals of audio storytelling and audio production. Participants will learn how to write for and connect with listeners as well as use sonic strategies including voice, silence, sound effects, and music to craft compelling and powerful audio stories. Over the course of two sessions, participants will transform an existing written story (which should be completed prior to the first session) into a sonically rich audio story.

Tanya Rodrigue is an Associate Professor in English at Salem State University. She teaches courses in writing and rhetoric, including audio storytelling and podcasting. Tanya has written and produced several audio stories and documentaries and created Soundplay, a Salem State University podcast that features student audio work. Tanya recently published a textbook with Kyle Stedman for students and novice audio producers titled Soundwriting: A Guide to Making Audio Projects.

This class will meet for two, two-hour sessions: November 15 and December 6 from 6:30–8:30 p.m., with an optional third session two-hour on January 10.

Class size limited to 10 students.
