A supplemental talk for the Athenaeum’s Summer Exhibition:The Grand Tour.

Upon meeting Lord Byron, Lady Caroline Lamb, Byron’s most infamous lover, declared that he was “Mad, bad, and dangerous to know.” Byron’s life remains the stuff of legend, and his poetry is still read and studied worldwide. This lecture will cover his tumultuous childhood, including his Grand Tour and how he was influenced by it. It will also explore his scandalous life with the many women (and men) that were part of it.

Janina Majeran is the Reference and Young Adult Librarian at the Swampscott Public Library. As an undergraduate at Fitchburg State University, she developed a keen interest in the Romantics, specifically Lord Byron. This interest culminated in putting together a presentation on the quite scandalous and influential poet. Janina has also developed and presented successful lectures on Mary Shelley, Oscar Wilde, and Emily Dickinson.
