Established in 1982, The Abbey Studio is a professional calligraphy & design studio located in the Old Town area of Marblehead. Maryanne Grebenstein, a professional calligrapher and owner of The Abbey Studio, uses the same materials and techniques that have been employed by scribes for centuries. Come meet the artist, see her workspace, and learn how she transforms words of tribute into works of art. She will have some of her equipment and examples of work on display.

She studied under Sheila Waters, Jeanyee Wong, Robert Boyajian and other notable calligraphers. She teaches workshops in calligraphy, manuscript gilding, and layout in her Marblehead studio. She is a former teacher at North Bennet Street School, and a former Adjunct Professor at Massachusetts College of Art.

She is the author of Calligraphy: A Course in Hand Lettering and Calligraphy Bible, both published by Watson-Guptill.
