Join Richard Hoffman, J.D. Scrimgeour, and Yuexi Wu for a screening of their 20-minute visual essay about the Salvador Dali painting, Soft Construction With Boiled Beans (Premonition of Civil War). Scrimgeour and Hoffman collaborated on the text, while Wu did the video editing. The painting, which was completed less than a year before the Spanish Civil War, caught the writers’ attention while they were visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Afterwards, they corresponded about it, then revised their correspondence into an essay. Wu took their work and, in consultation with the writers, crafted a video for the words.

The screening will be followed by a conversation with the artists.
